Looks like I'm gonna go with plan "B" cover them with fake Ostrich skin Naugahyde. the gloss black was really a bad idea.

I have no idea what the proper port size would be on these. : / I bought some poly fill for them today I'm going with about 1 lb per cu ft so about 5.75 lbs per cab.
For the port, you could use the same "copywrited" system that Srajen used, put a screw through one edge of your 10" cutout and secure it just to the outside of the port. The cutout circle can be turned to block some or none of the port. Don't worry about infringement because his is a little different .

Edit: whoops, saw that your cabinet is not too big where the port is, change that 10" circle to two 5" circles or cut the 10" to fit.

Here's a thread I started awhile back.Todd has since added it to his site.It is Altec enclosures on .pdf read the Altec Application Notes AN-5 Customizing Altec Enclosures should help you a bit on the ports maybe !

No, he designed it for someone else who later claimed it as his and only became aware of all this when someone posted a link to the 6 Moons article in a thread on another forum. They even published some of his private correspondence without his knowledge/consent.

Based on what's been posted about the other system, I'm convinced it's a baffle step compensation (BSC) possibly combined with some CD horn EQ issues.

The inside is just a box with some bracing and an above average driver support.

Any cab with a high enough aspect ratio to no longer have an air mass of ~uniform particle density that's required to be a reflex (Helmholtz resonator) is technically a MLTL, though if its 1/4 WL TL pipe action isn't strong enough to shorten the vent's reflex length, then it's actually in-between the two acoustically speaking. IIRC, this one just barely qualifies for MLTL status.

Hmm, small cab, large reflex vent = very high tuning, probably > 60 Hz, so a smaller hole is called for, but the net internal volume (Vb) must be known to calculate it.

For this much stuffing, the cab ideally needs to be sealed. Either way they won't have any real bass to speak of.

Thanks for Chiming in Greg, the internal volume will end up very close to 5 .75 cu ft without the stuffing I calculated every inch except for the speaker..... Is there anything I can do to salvage these cabs or are you saying there's nothing I can do to get them to deliver serious bass?? Should I just make them sealed? or leave the stuffing out? or If I were to calculate the volumes of the two 604 duplex cabinets on page 22 of the Altec 1974 enclosures manual and then calculate their port sizes to get a ratio of the the cabinet size to port size then reduce both at an equal amount down to the size of my cabinets would I come up with the correct port size for my cabinets? The main reason I built them was to get the speakers off the ground and at ear level when sitting on the couch. If all else fails I could send them to Cali to become homes for wayward Condors. : )
